I needed help with my daughter who was having a very difficult time at school, unable to follow basic direction, concentration, co-ordination of certain movements and just an overall disconnect with the world around her. 

Yvette’s testing blew my mind, brought things to my attention that other health care professionals should have noticed and never did. Her home movement program was designed specifically for my daughter and at her level. Sometimes it was a challenge to get the exercises done and find the time. Upon expressing my concerns with Yvette, she refined things and gave us a very time efficient routine that took us about 10 minutes a day alternating 2 routines which we did one day on and one day off. Sure we were not perfect a consistent all the time but even getting to the exercises 4 days a week for 10 minutes, I could see improvements in my daughters co-ordination, concentration and ability to process school work. 

Our favourite technique was the calming of the nervous system which we did often at night and my daughter’s face would light up at the end with a smile and say “ahh that feels so good”. 

We worked with Nimble Kids for about 2 years where we both fell in love with Yvette and used her wonderful suggestions and guidance. My daughter is now doing better.

We thought these things would ease off as he got older and he would “grow out of them” but everything just got worst and was affecting our whole family and his social life. His meltdowns were getting worst and more violent. He could not communicate his emotions at all. He had a lot of anger and frustration and would often take it out on his sister. He was developing obsessive compulsive behaviors. He was struggling to integrate in group settings. He was not able to read situations and understand what level of energy was appropriate. He was very much stuck in his logical brain. It seemed that everywhere we went he was “the challenging/problem child”.
 
After 7 months of working with Yvette, seeing her once a month and doing the work at home, 5 days a week, about 15 minutes per day, he has developed into a much more emotionally stable boy. His relationship with his father has flourished. He no longer has meltdowns. He is no longer violent with his sister or me (mom). His artistic abilities and interests have grown a lot. He is able to talk about how he feels. He is a happier, more joyful person. He is calmer and able to center himself. We haven’t had much experience in groups yet due to the pandemic but I feel that he now has the tools he needs to build healthy and deep friendships in a group setting. Right from the beginning, he and Yvette had a special connection. She really saw him for who he is and accepted him wholeheartedly. That means a lot to us and I know it means a lot to him as well! I love how patient, loving and kind she always was with him. Thank you for everything Yvette! We are eternally grateful for your presence in our family’s life.

Thanks to the various therapies and her calming and compassionate approach, she helped my teenaged son deal with a learning disability, anxiety, and dizziness. He has since been able to surmount a number of challenges that were preventing him from reaching his full potential. Just this week he received letters of acceptance from both a college and a university, passed his G2 licence driver’s test on his first try, and got a raise as a result of a great performance review at work. having behavioral challenges at school -- she found it difficult to sit
still, stay within her space, and focus on her work. It seemed that she
was uncomfortable in her own body. As a result, our daughter felt
anxious and frustrated when it came to learning new things, such as
reading.

During the assessment, Yvette guided our daughter through numerous
tests to determine the root causes of her difficulties. Yvette's
patience and attention to detail as well as her ability to relate to and
connect with our child made it possible for our daughter to be at ease
and follow Yvette's instructions. Yvette determined that some of our
daughter's reflexes had not integrated, so she created a plan which
contained a series of exercises to be done at home. Exercises consisted
of a series of repetitive movements taking approximately a half hour 4-5
days a week. A flow was created, as one movement lead to the next. We
were surprised at the initial thought process required to do the
movements, but the positive outcome was well worth the effort. In
addition, Yvette provided further resources and referrals, all of which
proved to be very helpful.

Over the course of six months, Yvette visited to observe our child's
progress and to implement additional exercises to support her
development. The transformation we witnessed during this time was truly
astounding. Our daughter went from shying away from reading and
challenging school work to discovering her love of reading and the
ability to sit and focus, to fully engage with the task at hand.

Reflecting back, we realize it would have been advantageous to have had
this assessment done when our daughter was an infant or toddler. We
would recommend an assessment by Yvette to anyone with young children.
Yvette's attention to detail, knowledge and wisdom reflect her passion
for and commitment to helping children reach their full potential. We
will always be grateful for Yvette's support.

]]>Sat, 25 Jan 2020 20:43:06 GMThttps://www.nimblekids.ca/testimonials/working-on-integrating-primitive-reflexes-is-one-of-the-best-therapies-we-have-done Working with Yvette on integrating primitive reflexes is one of the best therapies we have done for our youngest, now adult, daughter who is autistic and has developmental delays.  As early as 3 years old, we have tried almost every therapy or program for our daughter because we always felt she had potential and believed that she had the cognitive ability to lead a high functioning life.  Everything from the traditional speech and occupational therapies to a plethora of non-traditional, alternative therapies.  If you can name it, we probably have tried it.  Each one of these therapies resulted in a small gain but we still were not able to see significant cognitive gains especially as it related to executive functioning until we worked with Yvette on integrating her primitive reflexes. 

Fast forward 6 months into the program, and her teacher from school called home to find out what it was that we were doing differently.  She was making more connections with the content in her courses in terms of her cognitive abilities and they were pleased with her progress.  In addition to improvements in her executive functioning, her coordination skills and muscle tone significantly improved.  As an example, she always wanted to skip but could not figure out how since any activity which involved complex, cross body motor skills, was extremely difficult for her.  With Yvette’s program and guidance, she started to jump rope, was able to pick up marbles with her toes, was able to do the cats cradle and more.  The only regret I have with the program is not starting it much earlier in her life.  Integrating primitive reflexes should be one of the first therapies a child with autism or ID should try.  We are very grateful to Yvette for her guidance and for working with our daughter and ourselves.  Our daughter not only graduated from high school with a full diploma, she is now attending an independent living and vocational training program at Lesley University.

When we met her he was starting to have fits, which was unlike him, and having greater and greater issues interacting with other kids at school. Through the careful assessment of Yvette we discovered that he had issues with his eyes that had gone undetected by eye doctor visits which explained him always looking tired and bored in class (his eyes and brain constantly fighting to focus) and his reluctance to practice reading. We discovered that he had not integrated all his primitive reflexes causing him having various challenges. And all these challenges were translating in greater and greater difficulty interacting with others and getting frustrated more and more easily. We discovered that he was hearing too much which explained him freaking out when there were whistles in sight or sirens going off. All the sudden so many behaviors had an explanation and we could help him! And Yvette, with her incredible gentleness and patience, accompanied our son through the process of integrating his primitive reflexes, strengthening his core, improving his overall coordination. The kid that was not interested in sports, was incredibly uncoordinated, gained confidence and started showing interest in physical activities. He found his calm demeanor back. He won't be an athlete, he won't be an A-grade student, he won't be president of the class, but he is happy and curious to try new things and is self-assured (or at least so much more than he was!). Huge thanks to Yvette. May she be able to help many many more kids!

I love workshops that spread over the course of several months because this pace gives time to implement the theory received, to see what works/what doesn't, and to get feedback at the next session. The Waldorf-based philosophy that Yvette teaches is also filled with kindness and respect for the child and helps us, as parents, to strive to create such environments in our homes (which isn't always easy and intuitive). The workshops also allowed me to understand the different stages of child development and what the child needs, thinks and feels in each stage to help her grow into her own self and be ready to embrace the adult world.
I am still learning every day but the workshop allowed my husband and I to discuss what we wanted in the long term for our children and have a common approach to our kids' education.
